So, what do you do? There is never an easy way for me to answer this question. The answer is a lot, and usually all at the same time. That’s the nature of creativity, and I have exactly zero complaints about it. That said, my peers would describe me as ambitious, thoughtful, passionate, authentic, and (on occasion) funny. I’m also a communications professional by day with a flair for community management. I’ve had the pleasure of building up communities and running socials at some wildly cool companies, including The Library Journal, Multitude Productions, ReedPop, and Atlas Obscura.
While I was born in the Bronx, I grew up in suburban central New Jersey (yes, it does exist). I started work as a professional studio vocalist in 3rd grade (!!) and expanded into live performance by 13. To say I come from a ‘musical family’ is a gross understatement.
Both my parents are musicians who fostered my love of the craft from the get-go. My younger brother has nonverbal autism, but also perfect pitch and a three octave range. I learned how to recognize hundreds of songs through my bedroom floor, picking out bass lines and percussion from the speakers that were always on in my parents’ kitchen. Instead of Christmas cards, my family produced ten holiday albums in our basement over twelve years.
I’ve since done extensive studio work, been in countless cover bands, lead a few original projects, and performed for more audiences than your average theatre kid. I also occasionally write original tunes, though I primarily consider myself a lyricist/melodist.
I fell into creative writing young as well. I even studied it in college for a while, eventually earning recognition from the Rutgers University Writers House in 2014 for ‘Outstanding Nonfiction’. My later creative work – mostly fiction and poetry – has been published a in variety lit mags over the last few years.
No matter what I’m doing – painting, storytelling, belting, fumbling my fingers over a piano – I try very hard not to take it too seriously. Creativity is a source of joy like none other, and I am determined to maintain the fine balance between work and play. I hope you’ll see that reflected in the projects I’ve put here on this site. I also hope you’ll find something that resonates with you or (even better) inspires you to try out something of your own!
